Position Summary

Central Co-op’s Center Store is the foundation of our sales floor, and our commitment to high-quality, healthy foods and supporting small vendors is clear in the Center Store aisles! The Center Store Manager is responsible for overseeing all product and staff operations in this cornerstone department, as well as collaborating with store leadership to provide an outstanding customer experience.

Position Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of the Center Store Manager is to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the Center Store department. This includes:

● Overseeing the leads, buyers, and clerks who make up the Center Store area: Dry Grocery and Perishables

● Working closely and collaboratively with other store leadership to uphold and communicate operating standards and procedures

● Assisting buyers with ordering according to purchasing & product quality guidelines, customer needs, seasonality and current product trends

● Scheduling staff to maintain high standards for ordering, receiving, stocking, and merchandising

● Delivering and modeling phenomenal customer service, at all levels

● Training new staff, and nurturing a culture of continuing education for all

● Developing professional relationships with suppliers, vendors, and community partners

● Focusing on growing sales while maintaining gross profit margins

● Developing and implementing department merchandising plans & displays to drive sales

Qualifications

● 3+ years of experience in retail grocery management and/or supervision

● Exemplary communication, delegation and oversight skills

● A desire to work as part of a collaborative management team, and build strong, positive connections with staff

● Approaches challenges as an opportunity to create solutions

● Demonstrated ability to show nimbleness and adaptiveness in a fast-changing industry

● Experience with training and mentoring

● Proficiency at prioritizing and multi-tasking, and thriving on balancing multiple responsibilities

● Flexibility in scheduling, and the capability to work evenings and weekends

● Ideally, experience managing in a natural foods, cooperative model, and/or union environment

● Demonstrated experience in effective retail grocery category management, inventory, merchandising, and managing sales, margins, and labor budgets
