Position Summary
Central Co-op’s Deli department is a showcase for our robust in-house prepared foods program, as well as featuring ready-to-eat items from a diverse group of small, local vendors! The Deli Manager is responsible for overseeing all product and staff operations in this multi-faceted, fresh department, as well as collaborating with other department and store leadership to provide an outstanding customer experience for shoppers.

Position Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of the Deli Manager is to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the Deli department. This includes:

● Overseeing the leads, buyers, cooks and clerks who make up the Deli team

● Scheduling staff to maintain high standards for ordering, receiving, stocking, and merchandising

● Managing selections from and ensuring skillful execution of the Deli Menu

● Contributing to the development of recipes and menus

● Building professional relationships with suppliers, vendors, and community partners

● Working closely and collaboratively with other store leadership to uphold and communicate operating standards and procedures

● Focusing on growing sales while maintaining gross profit margins

● Assisting buyers with ordering according to purchasing & product quality guidelines, customer needs, seasonality and current product trends

● Delivering and modeling phenomenal customer service, at all levels

● Training new staff, and nurturing a culture of continuing education to all department staff

● Developing and implementing department merchandising plans & displays to drive sales



● 3+ years of experience in management and/or supervision, ideally in a grocery setting

● Exemplary communication, delegation and oversight skills

● A desire to work as part of a collaborative management team, and build strong, positive connections with staff

● Approaches challenges as an opportunity to create solutions

● Demonstrated ability to show nimbleness and adaptiveness in a fast-changing industry

● Experience with training and mentoring

● Proficiency at prioritizing and multi-tasking, and thriving on balancing multiple responsibilities

● Flexibility in scheduling, and the capacity to work evenings and weekends

● Ideally, experience managing in a Natural Foods, cooperative model, and/or union environment
