Financial Controller Job Opening – Green Zebra Grocery (Portland, OR)

September 12th 2021

Reports to: CEO
Status: Salaried/Exempt
Schedule: Full Time
Wage: DOE

At Green Zebra we are on a mission to increase access to healthy food!  We’re looking for a Financial Controller who has mad accounting/financial skills, is a People Person and a servant leader. Of course the Controller should also be an excellent devil’s advocate and a gate-keeper for our company finances

Our Controller manages all day-to-day related accounting and financing  activities of the company. They are responsible for Payroll, supervising AP/AR, managing our  financial accounting systems, generating Profit and Loss statements, balance-sheet management,  bank reconciliation, management of company/employee benefits plans and administration, as well as,  a bunch of other stuff that in a big company would probably get done by someone else, but in our little company gets done by the Controller.

Our Controller will work side by side with our staff to drive the direction and success of Green Zebra through their comprehensive knowledge of our financials. They will provide strategic vision and be a financial mentor for our team members. This position is ideal for the financial expert who also likes teaching others about “the numbers”.

Our Controller is  a financial leader who is continually seeking improvement and is a champion of change and growth.  We love to try new things and we want to explore new systems so we can spend less time on things like manual data entry and more time on serving our staff, customers and community.

Our Controller must be  a crystal clear communicator who actively listens and embraces our value of communicating  information transparently and sharing open book financials with everyone in the company (not just with the executives). We are a triple bottom line company that walks our talk on valuing ALL stakeholders.

Being best friends with Excel is a requirement of the job.  You also have to be able to create financial models quickly using various assumptions. If forecasting is not your thing and it drives you crazy when the CEO asks for a new version of the forecast, you should think twice about applying for this particular job.

This is a great job opportunity for someone who is an experienced Controller and wants to grow into the CFO role. We are a values-based company and servant leadership is at the heart of  how we lead in our organization. We are striving to become an anti-racist company and that means we work together to make our workplace more accessible and more equitable for all who work and shop with us.
