Harvest Time at Sweet Creek Foods

September 18th 2018

Harvest time! Fresh harvests are crucial for producing the highest quality products, as we work quickly to lock in the flavors of our regional harvests. Gorgeous Chester Blackberries from our friends at Ayer’s Creek make excellent fruit spread with sweet and rich flavor. Fresh tomatoes from Inaba become salsas and tomato sauces unlike any other. This time of year we keep working as long as it takes to make sure every ingredient is processed at peak freshness and quality. Our regional farmers and fishermen are some of the best in the world and we take great care to bring their hard work to consumers as a unique, shelf-stable product.

Normally we’d be up to our ears in cucumbers producing our beloved Garlic Dills, Bread and Butters, Chili Dills, and Sweet and Dill Relishes, but this year has proved to be another challenging one for our founding product. Much like last year, crop failures and extreme heat have stalled production. We are working with our farmers to find ways to keep these local favorites on store the shelves.

Prior to harvest, we shut down production for three weeks to completely overhaul and improve our production facility. We’ve scrubbed and primed and landscaped our working space in preparation for a third-party audit, which will allow us to expand our customer base and open new marketing venues. The place is looking and feeling great!

We’ve had some new additions to our kitchen crew this year, and we’re thrilled to be working with such a passionate and caring group of people. The whole team puts a great deal of heart and soul into what we produce, and it shows in the quality of our products. We couldn’t do any of this alone and we depend on each other for support and strength.

We’re working on some new products this year and we’re excited to be starting production of Sweet Creek Foods Jalapeno Relish, a flavorful and easy to use adaptation of our Pickled Jalapenos. Our Jalapeno Relish uses diced jalapenos to create a spoonable, spicy relish that can be added to a variety of recipes including burgers, nachos, spicy tuna salad, and so much more.

Stay tuned for more additions to the Sweet Creek product line in the future!

We live in a great community and each day we give great thanks for those that are a part of this wonderful food chain. May we all eat well, be well, support each other and have hope for the future.
