Hummingbird Wholesale Announced as Good Food Foundation 2022 Good Food Award Finalist
Eugene, OR (November 2, 2021) – Hummingbird Wholesale is thrilled to announce that they made
the Good Food Foundation’s list of the 351 Finalists for the 2022 Good Food Awards in two categories, Snacks and Grains. Winners will be announced Friday, January 14 in San Francisco.
Hummingbird’s Awakened® Walnuts are made inhouse in small batches, starting with raw Organic nuts from a family farm in California. The walnuts are soaked overnight in pure water initiating germination and helping reduce enzyme inhibitors that can make all nuts hard to digest. They are then rinsed with a Himalayan Pink Salt and water solution and dehydrate them at low temperatures until they reach the perfect crunchiness.
Hummingbird’s Tibetan Black Barley is grown on an Organic farm in Idaho. This barley, with its bran intact, retains a firm, plump texture during cooking, making it perfect in soup, stuffing and stews. It’s also great when mixed with other grains due to its contrasting chewy texture.
Hummingbird Wholesale’s Awakened® Walnuts and Tibetan Black Barley are not their first products to be in the running for this prestigious food award. Previously, Hummingbird received the Good Food Award for their Organic Pumpkin Seed Oil (2016), Organic Awakened® Pecans (2021) and Organic Hazelnut Oil (2021).
According to Stacy Kraker, Director of Sales and Marketing, “At Hummingbird, we put so much thought and care into creating our Awakened® Walnuts and into sourcing from regional growers for our line of Organic farm direct, Organic products, like our Tibetan Black Barley. We ensure there is health and integrity every step of the way – from how the product is grown using Organic practices, to ensuring a fair return to the farmer who grew it, and the way we minimally process the food we manufacture. In the end, we believe you can taste all that goodness when you enjoy our products. It is an incredible honor to be recognized by The Good Food Foundation.”
Spanning 42 states and Washington D.C., these Finalists stood out from the nearly 2,000 entries as the top scorers in 17 categories. In conjunction with this announcement, for the first time ever, the Good
Food Awards Finalists Pop Up Shop goes live to offer everyone the opportunity to savor, celebrate and support these incredible makers. Across all categories, the Finalists represent the highest standards of quality, sustainability and social responsibility.
The Good Food Foundation will return to live events in 2022, beginning with the Good Food Awards Ceremony on Friday, January 14 in San Francisco, where 233 of the 351 Finalists will become the 2022 Winners. Following the ceremony, the industry-only San Francisco Good Food Mercantile will open for buyers to connect directly with good food makers from across the country – and now the world, at the first ever Good Food International Showcase. The Good Food Foundation will hit the road next spring with the Portland Mercantile on April 29 and the New York Mercantile on June 25. Tickets and registration for all events will be available in mid-November at goodfoodfdn.org.
