Creating local jobs while reducing the company’s carbon footprint

Eugene, Oregon – Last week, Mountain Rose Herbs quietly opened its brand-new organic processing facility—creating eight new jobs in the Eugene-Springfield area. This socially and environmentally conscious company’s dedication to sustainability was one of the biggest drivers behind the new facility.

“One main focus for 2018 is creating a carbon-neutral business model,” says Mountain Rose Herbs Vice President, Shawn Donnille. “Having our products cut and milled right next to our receiving warehouse instead of shipping them to California and back will dramatically reduce our carbon footprint.”

In addition being more environmentally friendly, the state-of-the-art facility gives Mountain Rose Herbs full oversight and control on all critical touch points of its organic raw material handling.

“Our new processing facility gives us the ability to meet our high standards for cutting, powdering, and sifting each botanical to our unique specifications for sale and/or blending,” says Chief Operations Officer, Jennifer Gerrity. “It’s exciting because it allows our quality control team to oversee the processing of our botanicals while speeding up our turnaround time from two months to a few days, meaning fresher herbs in stock faster for our 2,500 customers each day”

Mountain Rose Herbs is hopeful that the new organic processing facility will be a benefit to other local food and beverage businesses in the area too. Local business owner Sean Kelly of WildCraft Cider Works has expressed interest in having Mountain Rose Herbs help process the wildcrafted botanicals used in his ciders.
