Responsibilities

  • Train, schedule, and maintain a readied team that keeps the department fully stocked and rotated.
  • Search for ways for the team to be more efficient and faster at helping our customers and deliver extraordinary customer service while serving as a role model.
  • Ensure that the sales floor, shelves, displays, aisles, and storage areas are maintained in a clean, orderly condition, satisfying Health Department, and store safety standards.
  • Ensure safety and quality of food products by monitoring storage conditions, temperatures, and shelf life, discounts short dated product.
  • Ensure that department staff follows all health code and safety procedures and cleaning schedules.
  • Assist customers with special orders (Buyer’s Club).
  • Identify and address performance and personnel issues in a timely manner and in adherence to Sunny Farm’s policies.
  • Promote sales through active discussions with customers, offering product recommendations, and discussing current promotions and assisting customers to locate any product throughout the store.
  • Assisting in managing (directing, coordinating) as well as participate in moving freight, facing product, hanging tags, rotating, cleaning, markdowns, stocking and backstock, merchandising with other departments, pricing, greeting customers, building displays, ordering and setting seasonal items, and taking inventory.
  • Handing register functions including cashiering, managing customer returns, addressing customer complaints, and covering registers as necessary.
  • Provide on-the-job training to new personnel, ensuring they learn exceptional customer service and the proper and safe operation (at minimum) of the following equipment: telephones and paging system, cardboard baler, electric pallet jack, and any other equipment used by the department.
  • Identify and support the development of associates who show promise or interest in increased responsibility.
  • Manage margins, COGs, and overall department profitability including minimizing shrink and maximizing effective purchasing.
  • Possess a sense of urgency in the completion of tasks.

Supervisory Responsibilities. Supervisory responsibilities include supervising, coordinating, and evaluating the activities of department staff to include training, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance in a timely manner, rewarding, disciplining, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience. High School diploma or GED and a minimum of five years related retail experience in a natural foods retail environment. Supervisory experience, (interviewing, training, and performance evaluation), knowledge of natural foods industry trends, and exposure to basic financial concepts (sales, cost of sales, and margin) required.

Language Skills. Read, analyze and interpret general business documents. Write reports and business correspondence. Communicate effectively and pleasantly with all customers, vendors, and staff, under all circumstances.

Mathematical Skills. Perform basic mathematical skills in order to manage a profitable operation including concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions. Perform mathematical skills using units of American money and weight measurement, and volume.

Computer Skills. Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Outlook.

Reasoning Abilities. Apply common sense understanding to carry out simple instructions in written or oral form. Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form.

Other Qualifications. Meets the state minimum requirement to work with equipment (cardboard baler, forklif,t and pallet jacks).

  • Food Handler’s Safety Training
  • Valid State Food Handler’s Permit

Physical Demands & Safety Expectations. Most positions at Sunny Farms require physical effort to varying degrees. This may include using personal protective equipment when and where required, understanding ergonomic safety, chemical hazards and safe lifting techniques.
