Provender Crossroads Update: Town Hall Membership Meeting

Provender Crossroads Update:
Town Hall Membership Meeting, August 19th

Dear Provender Community,

We want to keep you updated on what’s happening with our organization. Like many other non-profits, the Provender Alliance is facing tough challenges. As shared with you in May, we have been experiencing circumstances where we could no longer continue with “business as usual.” Our beloved Provender is at a proverbial crossroads.

We are dealing with a confluence of depleting financial reserves plus declining membership, and are now impacted by the ongoing impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. Traditionally, our annual conference has been a sustaining economic factor. And while we are planning a fantastic online conference for October 21-23, it’s unknown if it will bring in the resources needed to sustain us through December. Indeed, 2020 is a make or break year for us.

Despite these difficult circumstances, our community also has reasons to be optimistic. There is still no stronger network to be found in the natural foods and products community than the Provender Alliance.

We all got into this not just to make a living but also because we believe in the possibility of a better world. We are dedicated to the values that the natural foods movement embodies. Some things are worth fighting for.

To help assure our future together, we invite you to our first virtual Town Hall Membership Meeting next Wednesday. Provender especially needs you at this juncture. We want to hear your input!

Member participation is the foundation of Provender Alliance
 — building community by sharing cutting-edge educational information, creating warm connections, and through the many shared values to uphold integrity and justice in our food supply.

Together we are creating ways to bring the best of Provender forward:

  • The board of directors has started four new committees. Coupled with new and long-time members recently volunteering to help with our revitalization, we are definitely feeling an energy lift in Provender’s time of need.
  • A concerted effort is resulting in increasing membership (three new members last month!).
  • New programs are in development, and our ongoing peep-to-peer Community Conversations events bring together the Provender “brain trust” to address and find solutions for pressing issues that our members share.
  • Very soon Provender will formally launch the Stewardship Fund, to help nourish Provender’s financial existence into the future. Stay tuned for ways you can contribute and help “pay it forward.”

Please come to our virtual town hall gathering August 19th at noon (PST). We want to hear what’s most important for you and talk about the challenges Provender is now facing. We welcome your input and concerns. Be a part of this dynamic give and take.

We looking forward to meeting with you soon,

Mark, Meg, Troy, Jenica, Joe, and Abigail
