This past year has brought the realities of destabilization in food production to our very doorsteps. How will fires, floods, and water rationing inform what’s up ahead with produce supplies and other essential product ingredients? Which shortages are we facing? What are the opportunities and possible solutions? Learn from multiple perspectives to help natural food stores, manufacturers, and others plan for the upcoming year with practical tips and bigger-picture perspectives. 

 

Bios:

Charlie Tilt along with his wife Julie, are co-owners of Hummingbird Wholesale, a small family-owned and operated business focused on being a positive force for change in the food industry. Since 1972, Hummingbird has endeavored to serve people and the planet by providing the highest quality, most nutritious foods, grown as locally and sustainably as possible. They bring to the food business realm their perspective and experience in permaculture and organic agriculture, and a desire to create and maintain health in our lives, work, and ecosystems. Hummingbird’s business model strives for maximum benefit for both customers and farmers. The Hummingbird team has worked to build long-term relationships with area farms and to support them in providing healthy food for our community. More than a food distributor, they work closely with farmers, businesses, and nonprofit organizations to promote sustainable agriculture, build regional food system infrastructure, and strengthen the organic community.

Mike Boyle – Mike is the Vice President of Sales & Sourcing at Organically Grown Company (OGC), which has provided their customers with fresh and flavorful organic produce since 1978. Before joining OGC in 2013, Mike Boyle studied Environmental Science at the University of Colorado Boulder and enjoyed a 15-year-long career in natural foods and specialty retail. His love of produce brought him to Oregon, and opened the next chapter of his professional development. In his eight years with OGC, Mike has held several roles including Sales Account Manager, Buyer and Director of Sales and Business Development. Now, as Vice President Sales and Sourcing, Mike is working to ensure OGC leads by its mission and purpose and serves all its stakeholders.

Wes Henthorne – Wes is the Ranch Manager of the B Bar Ranch in Big Timber, Montana. Located in the heart of Yellowstone country, B Bar Ranch is nestled in the pristine privacy of Tom Miner Basin. We are committed to stewardship of this land and its natural resources, and strive to attain agricultural sustainability. We provide certified organic, pasture raised, grass finished beef.

 

 

Jenica CaudillJenica Caudill – Jenica has been involved in the movement for sustainable agriculture and small-farmer justice for over ten years, both as an academic at the University of Illinois and as an industry professional at Equal Exchange, Fair World Project, and now the Midwest Organic and Sustainable Education Service. She believes in a future built on strengthening small-farmer autonomy, farmworker justice, and organic, regenerative agriculture. Jenica currently serves as the Director of Development and Marketing at the Midwest Organic and Sustainable Education Service (MOSES), a nonprofit dedicated to supporting the success and resiliency of small and mid scale organic farmers across the Upper Midwest. In her spare time, she enjoys practicing yoga, hammering on the banjo, and relearning the wonder of the world with her daughter, Elsie.
